Mother to Son by Langston Hughes is quite an interesting piece. It tells us how to persevere and get through the tough times. It also shows us great figurative language. One of the examples is "Life for me ain't been no crystal stair." This metaphor means that the mother's life has been very difficult. This is only one of the many that this short poem uses to symbolize how hard your life can be, and also to never give up.
