Will the Pearl Destroy the Family?

The Pearl by John Steinbeck, in my opinion will eventually destroy the family because people will try to steal it and greed will take over. The reason he went out and found the pearl was because his one and only son got stung by a scorpion and may not survive. So they need a doctor to save his son. After he does this he will still have lots of money left over, so he and his spouse Juana will get married. Then he is going to buy a lot of stuff for himself and is being selfish with the money. So in the end I think the pearl will destroy them because they have to much money on their shoulders and they will all be greedy with it. If not someone will kill them for it.
